Hello,
I am interested in the medieval part of the history of the Heiligen Römischen Reich. It is really fascinating. I am especially looking for some information about the Interregnum period (1256-1273). Could you please help me in finding answers to the questions below? Thank you in advance.
1. Which states from the list found at Liste der Territorien im Heiligen Römischen Reich – Wikipedia were actually part of the Imperium in the period in question? What was the vassal hierarchy of the different entities?
2. Was Schlesien part of the HRR? The region was Polish, but Poland was fractured at that time, with no strong central authority and the dukes of Silesia tended to swear allegiance to Bohemian or German rulers. It was also a time of intense German settling in Silesian towns. But was the region actually considered to be within the HRR?
3. Similiar question about Pomerania. It was theoretically independent, with Danish, Polish and German influences mixing. Was is part of HRR?
4. Schleswig and Holstein? Danish or parts of the HRR?
5. Flanders and the Low Countries? Independent? French?
6. What about Swiss cantons?
7. Which present day French regions were within the HRR?
8. Can we think of "Austrians" as a nation in that time?
9. And finaly northern Italy. Were the city-states really part of the HRR or were they independent?
All those questions could be answered by a good map.
And final question. Who actually elected the new Kaiser in 1273? It was before the Golden Bulle, so who were the electors?
I will be gratefull for an answer in English, but I understand many German words so with a little help of Google Translate I can read also German sources.
Vielen Dank
Mit freundlichen Gruessen,
Syseng
